Dr. John as seen on Outside Television
In January of this year Dr. John packed his backpack with everything he would need to help support the filming of a new Outside Magazine / Outside Television reality series set in the backcountry of the Colorado Rockies. Outside Adventure Film School’s reality series, The Final Cut, now airing on the Outside Television network.
While not a main character by any stretch, Dr. john has been seen lurking in the background of some of the scenes (and was part of an ad in Outside Magazine). Since it’s inception in 2007, the Outside Adventure Film school has taught the art of filmmaking in some of the most amazing locations on the planet. Read two crew testimonials.
At left Dr. John is skiing in (“skinning”) to Janet’s Cabin at 11,650′. This is after 2 miles at sundown…over 3 more arduous miles to go climbing more than 2000′ with a 50 lb pack, in the dark, and 10 degrees. Everyone was glad to make it to the hut!
My Chiropractic Story
Before entering the chiropractic profession I was a patient, so I understand the questions and concerns of my patients. I had a long history of neck and back pain from downhill and water skiing (my nickname in my junior high ski club was “crash”), pole vaulting, and other traumatic injuries (but no broken bones!).
I went to a chiropractor when I couldn’t take it any longer (on my mom’s urging, thanks mom) and in one visit I received that “miracle” adjustment that relieved 90% of the pain I had been dealing with that year. From that moment on I was sold.
I didn’t need the surgery, cortisone shots, and neck braces that were being pushed on me…I just needed to remove the interference that was preventing me from feeling and being well. THAT is what chiropractic did for me and can do for you.
What I Do
I am a chiropractor specializing in the field of sports chiropractic. Many of my patients have been elite runners, rugby players, triathletes, and swimmers. I make use of a variety of diagnostic procedures from a multitude of chiropractic and neurologic disciplines, which reveal faulty neurological conditioning, aberrant movement patterns, joint fixations, muscle weaknesses and incorrect muscle recruitment.
My treatment methods are also diverse and range from a wide array of chiropractic adjustments, Active Release Technique (ART), muscle energy techniques, low force activator and sacro-occipital techniques, and Gua Sha. Additionally I am a certified chiropractic extremity practitioner (CCEP) specializing in the treatment of upper extremities (Jaw (TMJ/TMD), shoulder, arm, elbow, wrist, hand) and lower extremities (hip, leg, knee, ankle, feet) and have helped many patients who have not found relief from other chiropractors and medical doctors. There are only about 800 CCEP specialists worldwide, none in Washington, DC (except me) and 2 in the Northern VA area.
Personally, I am a triathlete and understand the types of stresses swimmers, bikers, and runners place on their bodies, as well as the typical and atypical injuries these athletes incur.
Before becoming a chiropractor I worked as a marine scientist for the National Academy of Sciences, Congressional Research Service, NOAA, and the University of Miami. While at the U. of Miami I was also a scientific research SCUBA diver and assistant diving safety officer. Before that I worked in the field of experiential education.
I have a young son who is the joy of my life that only other parents can understand! I should add he has also benefited from chiropractic and has only had a couple colds in his four years, while many of his classmates seem to have constant ailments (chiropractic allows the immune system to function at its peak!). As a proud parent I predict he’ll be an outstanding swimmer, Nobel prize winner, and all-around good guy!
